iMac does not reboot after shutdown or restart

Please , please Apple sort this. I now do not power off or restart my iMac because it take 3 hours or more to recover the system. This is bad news.

I am just waiting for a power out.! Also nervous about using time machine just yet in can I run out of Yosemite backups
