Tonight my iPhoto opened, then crashed almost immediately. I have done a database rebuild, but it continues to crash shortly after opening. Using iPhoto 9.4.3 on OSX 10.8.5... thanks for any help.

My problem with iPhoto started this morning 11/18/15. I cannot get it to stay open. Crashes every time. My version is 10.8.5.

Well this is interesting - just seconds ago, a Java update window appeared. Hmmmm... think it's a repair for this problem - or should I be afraid?
Edit - here is the list of bug fixes for the new Java update, but I don't see iPhoto on there.
My iPhoto was open last night and suddenly closed itself today. I was unable to reopen my iphoto (same OS and version as original thread) all day today, I have another app called iPhoto Library Manager where I was able to rebuild the Library (If you don't want to download app, Apple's website has information on how to do this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638, and when it tried to open iPhoto with the new library iPhoto says that The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. The photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete. So I'm guessing we all need to Update iPhoto but I don't have 1 hour to kill so I'll try the upgrade process later.

I have the same issue as you guys, just from this morning. Same version 9.4.3 with mountain lion. Crashes when clicking info or places. I don't have a fix yet but I have discovered if I disconnect my internet connection iPhoto works just as before, no crashes etc. Maybe apple are trying to force us to upgrade…??
There are two fixes in the list that might apply - a MacOS X fix for Image Transfer and the jaxp fix for weblogic. The crash log we have seen starts with a call to WebCore::ScriptRunner.
I'd try the update, since it contains mainly bug fixes.
I did see and wonder about the image transfer fix. I did not know Java had to do with anything other than browsers. Downloading the update now...
I just tried the java update…didn't work, iPhoto still crashes
I rebuilt my library and it works fine now.

Not sure if your issue was exactly the same as others' here - you said you were unable to open iPhoto... would it open and then crash? Or would it simply not open? Also, if it was crashing, was it when the info mode was open?
I found a fix that works for me..
1. goto /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Resources
2. delete the files ' googlemap.html ' and googlesearch.html
Iphoto no longer crashes, places doesn't work but it doesn't bother me too much.

Well, the Java update did not fix it, nor did another database rebuld.
I'm wondering if there isn't some kind of bug that hit iPhoto all over the place today. I have the same problem that cropped up when I tried to open iPhoto this afternoon. Tried the usual shut down and restart "fix" and it made no difference. Four different times iPhoto would open initially then "shut down unexpectedly". I'm watching and waiting to see if Apple, or anyone else comes up with a true/simple fix.

This did work for me. I don't use places so it was fine for me to get rid of those. Especially since with them I cannot use iPhoto which is much worse than not having places.
