Nov 17, 2015 10:51 PM in response to CB from Forbesby léonie,How did you transfer the iPhoto Libraries to the new Mac?
Did you use the Setup Assistent or did you copy the library manually using an external drive or the network?
But when i try to pull the iPhoto library into Photos, the thumbnails don't show up, instead it shows blank squares.
How did you do that?
To open the iPhoto Library in Photos you can drag the iPhoto Library onto the Photos icon in the Dock. It should create a migrated version.
If that is what you have done, try to recreate the thumbnails as described here: Fix missing or incorrect thumbnails in Photos - Apple Support
Do you have iCloud Photo Library enabled? You may see blurry photos, if the photos still need downloading from iCloud.

Nov 20, 2015 7:58 PM in response to léonieby CB from Forbes,I could not use setup assistant (new computer oddly had Yosemite not El Capitan which was on the older one). I copied manually the photos, then copied the iPhoto Library. Copied across our home network.
Not using ICloud for this.

Is your iPhoto Library referenced? The original photos stored in separate folders outside the library?
If you copied the original photos and the iPhoto Library separately, the link between the edited versions and the originals will have been broken and Photos cannot access the originals to edit them, export them, or show them enlarged.
Test this by selecting one of the photos and using the command "Show Referenced File in Finder". Photos should prompt you to locate the original file, if it cannot be found. Then point Photos to the folder with the photos you copied.
