i have lots of pdfs in my iBooks library; i want to merge several into one document, one new pdf.

You can't do it directly in the iBooks app. You could try searching your country's app store to see if there are any apps that have that functionality, though you may not be able to get the PDFs to a different app directly on your iPad (not all PDFs allow you to email them to yourself so that you can use 'open in' in the Mail app to open them in a different app), you are probably better off doing it via your computer and syncing the merged PDF to your iPad.
