Ipad Air 2 WiFi lags when charging

Hi everyone,

I replaced my iPad 2 by the iPad Air 2 WiFi 64GB back in Feb 2015 but quickly noticed some lags during usage.

If I just thought the device needed a proper restart, I finally managed to find out that the problem only occured while charging.

Even more interesting is that I managed to reproduce the issue when the ipad is used on top of a charging laptop (macbook in my case).

Of course, I tried to swap both the cable and charger to ensure only the iPad was to blame.

The lag impacts ALL applications and particularly annoying when using the keyboard as it tends to ignore or double my taps on the screen.

I can also confirm that the problem has been there in IOS 8 and 9. Nothing changed between versions.

The problem goes away instantly once removing the iPad from any charging source.

I described the problem and sent the iPad for repair but came back as OK.

Does anyone else witnessed this problem ? Although I can live with the workaround, not being able to use the ipad during charge is very annoying.

Hi there ToMMyBoaY,

It sounds like your iPad isn't responding correctly when it is charging and you have isolated the issue to the iPad specifically rather than the issue being with the cable or charger itself. From the information you provided it sounds like we should be able to isolate the issue here to either the software or the hardware on the device. Start by quitting all the running apps since they all seem to be affected:

1. Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.
2. Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:

If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works.

If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.

If none of that works, then I would suggest repair for your iPad:

Hi !

Thanks for your suggestions.

The only option I didn't try so far was full restore of the iPad. Unfortunately, it did not help.

My main problem is that I already sent the iPad for repair but they returned my device pretending it was fine. Is there a way to escalate the issue ?

Honestly, I would reach out to AppleCare and talk to someone about that is going on. Restoring to factory settings will usually isolate out software as an issue.
