I want to quit using itunes match but I want my music downloaded to my local machine since I bought a new laptop since joining match. How do I go about this?

I have only been a user or itunes match for a year but in that year my laptop hard drive failed and i now have a new laptop. Is there a way for me to download all of my music from itunes match to my new machine and quit match forever? It really doesn't work well.

Hi concretedonkey,

I'm sorry to hear you were unhappy with iTunes Match. To download your entire Match library, you should be able to select all items (select first item, then shift-click last item), then right click to give the download option. Once you have a local copy of your music, you would then be able to discontinue the iTunes Match auto-renewal, as outlined here:

Turn off iTunes Match Automatic Renewal

By default, iTunes Match will automatically renew your subscription at the end of your one-year subscription. You can cancel your subscription or unsubscribe to iTunes Match by turning off Automatic Renewal on your Mac or PC or on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

On your Mac or PC

Click to open iTunes and sign in to your Account Information, or use the steps below:

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Click Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
    User uploaded file
  3. Click your name and select Account Info from the menu.
    User uploaded file
  4. Enter your password again.

On the Account Information screen:

  1. Scroll to the iTunes in the Cloud section.
  2. To the right of iTunes Match, click Turn Off Automatic Renewal.

Using iTunes Match

Your iTunes Match subscription also includes an iCloud Music Library, which allows you to enjoy your entire music library from all of your devices.

Songs that we find that are available in our catalog are instantly accessible on all of your other devices, and you can save them for offline listening on your devices indefinitely. When iTunes Match adds these songs to your iCloud Music Library, iTunes Match doesn’t change or alter your original music files that reside on iTunes for Mac or PC or on your iOS devices from which they were added. These songs are made available to your other computers or devices in high quality 256 Kbps DRM-free AAC, and any of these songs that you save offline can continue to play, even after your iTunes Match subscription ends.

In addition, iTunes will upload to your iCloud Music Library those songs that we can’t find in our catalog, to make them available to you on all of your other devices.

With iTunes Match, all of the songs that we matched or uploaded using iTunes on your Mac or PC during your iTunes Match subscription can be downloaded DRM-free (if matched) or in their uploaded form and are yours to keep. These songs can continue to play after your iTunes Match subscription ends.
