You can always refer to your cell carrier. They have your Serial Number on their database. Therefore, you can log to your account online, and see the information of your device.
If you go on icloud.com, Apple censors your SN. Your best luck would be your carrier. Your original bill of purchase, or your contract given to you by your provider. OR EVEN BEHIND THE BOX that comes originally with the iPhone.

No, they probably don't. Carriers have the IMEI in their databases. The serial number is irrelevant to them.
