How to take a screenshot on your Mac - Apple Support

In terminal copy and paste:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /Users/Username/Desktop/

Replace your <Username> with the name of the user on your system, then use the

killall SystemUIServer

thanks for reply

i followed the steps you described

as well as the matching tutorial

and have the screenshots folder on my desktop

but whenever i click on these keys simultaneously

shift>command>3

or

shift>command>4

i get a bong audio tone that something is wrong

not a camera click audio tone confirming that everything is ok

and nothing copies or appears in the new folder on the desktop

this has always worked fine on my old G4 desktop machine

but has never worked properly on this laptop

any other ideas ?

thanks again

that's right

i purchased this laptop on 22 nov 2012

and have never been able to successfully capture a screen shot

i always got the BONG sound and gave up

and did everything on my old G4 desktop because it worked

now i don't have the desktop machine anymore

so i need to make this function on the laptop

i just attempted to fix with your terminal suggestions again

but have the same problem

any other recommendations ?
