Ear buds will not insert into Ipod Touch 6th generation

The ear buds supplied with my new Ipod Touch 6th generation will not click into the jack although they fit well into my Ipad. They just fall out.

Have tried other ear buds but they won't go in either. Has any one had this problem? I'm wondering if the hole is faulty.

If multiple earbuds or other 3.5mm headphones have failed, I'd take the touch back for replacement.
