Q: Apple Diagnostics Won't Start On 27" Retina 5K iMac
I have a brand new Retina 5K 27" iMac (iMac 17,1) running OS X 10.11.1, with the bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. Today I added an additional 16 GB to the 16 GB that came with the iMac. Although System Report shows that the new memory was recognized and is status "ok", I thought I would run Apple Diagnostics and presumably do a more thorough check. I have followed all instructions for running it (holding down D, etc.) but the diagnostics never starts. All I see on the screen is an extremely small rectangle on an otherwise dark screen. I've let the machine alone with this rectangle for 25 minutes or so but no changes. When I shut down and start again everything is fine. Any thoughts on why I can't get the diagnostics to work?
