Q: Can there please be a way for a Macbook to recognize and start-up from an external display without having to have the lid opened when the display is initially connected?  This is terribly inconvenient!

Is there a way (or can there please be!) to connect a Macbook to an external monitor with the lid (clamshell) closed the entire time?  It is terribly inconvenient to have to open the lid, then get the Macbook to connect to and recognize the display, THEN close the lid and stash the Macbook where it goes on my desk so that I can use my external display setup.  Seems like it should be pretty straightforward to allow the Macbook to 'wake' when connected to power, a keyboard & mouse, and an external display in a docking port style.

Thanks,.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)
