Nov 19, 2015 6:31 AM in response to Laxmateby Winston Churchill,Welcome to the Apple Community.
Sounds like it might be the TV it's connected to, try it with another TV.

Jan 1, 2016 4:18 PM in response to Laxmateby ckugo,I have this issue as well. Have you had any success in fixing this problem?

Jan 6, 2016 7:31 PM in response to Laxmateby ckugo,I figured out my issue. When I would use the Apple TV remote to power on my TV this would happen. Turning on the tv first then waking the Apple TV has resolved my issue.

Jan 31, 2016 11:37 AM in response to Laxmateby B.Larsen,I have the exact same problem.
It seems like, that the problem comes when the Apple Tv goes to Sleep by it self. If I "put it to sleep" the there is sound when I turn it on...

Feb 4, 2016 2:47 PM in response to Laxmateby Blewbot,Same here. As a work around disconnecting the hdmi and plugging it back in resolves the issue faster than the atv restart. Hopefully they will fix this soon. It's very disappointing.

Feb 14, 2016 6:57 PM in response to Laxmateby sirozha,I have the same issue. My problem occurs when I turn off my TV and AV receiver with a Harmony remote. That sequence does not power off Apple TV4 - I never programmed it to be turned off because I need it to stay on as the HomeKit relay for my HomeKit compatible devices to be controlled when I'm outside my network.
When I turn on my TV and AV receiver with the Harmony remote, in about 80% of cases, there's no sound coming from Apple TV. Initially, I was rebooting my Apple TV to restore sound, but then, I realized that I can just put it to sleep with the Apple TV4 remote and then wake it up. After it wakes up, the sound is restored.
This is an annoying bug, which Apple still hasn't fixed.

Apr 5, 2016 9:58 AM in response to sirozhaby Steveps3,This is exactly what happens to me when I use the harmony remote to power on. I was going to take my Apple TV to the Genius Bar the weekend but I fear any other Apple TV will do exactly the same thing.

Apr 8, 2016 11:56 AM in response to Laxmateby Steveps3,I think I have fixed my issue. I was using a harmony remote and have put a delay in the Apple TV power on. This is so the tv turns on first and is on when the Apple TV powers on. Hasn't happened at all in 3 days now, touch wood.
