Q: How do you solve the Quicktime plugin issue on Chrome?

I Use iWeb to keep a person web site on my own server. I post the videos and animations I make for friends and family. After adding some recent videos I got a warning about the quicktime plugin from Safari, but was able to use the workaround of enabling the plugin. No such luck on Google. It wont support the plugin and instead wants you to use the new html5 tag video.

Will iWeb be updated to handle changes made by html5?

Looking at the code iWeb produces it does not seem an easy task to change the quicktime plugin reference to a html5 video tag. There is Javascript involved. This seems to negate the ease of use I was enjoying with iWeb. Changing Javascript was not  one thing I wanted to start doing. Does anyone have an easier solution?

iWeb isn't supported anymore. So forget about updates.

And Chrome on the latest OS X does not support QT either. So forget about that too.

But you can re-install QT on ElCapitan :

    Here's a download for Windows :

And here you'll find lots of HTML5 videocode with samples :

Whatever you choose, paste it in a HTML Snippet.

Thanks for the reply. I had  Safari fixed, but Chrome was the issue. So back to just using html snippets... I really liked the drag and drop features..

It wasn't as bad as I thought. I located the "type=" parameter in the Javascript field and replaced "quicktime" with "mp4" and everything works. I'll just have to remember that when I next do a change.

Thanks again for the quick reply and links.

In the long run, it might just be easier for you to change the application you are using to create your website to one that is supported.

As has already been stated, iWeb is no longer supported by Apple and has not been for quite a number of years now.

If your site is just a personal site, then it would not take you longer to re-create it in something like EverWeb.  This app is the closest thing that you are every going to get to iWeb and it is very like it and you can do a lot more with EverWeb and you won't need workarounds and unlike iWeb, it is a supported product.

Thanks for the advice I'll look into it. I didn't realized iWeb was discontinued in 2011. I must have been a sleep for a few years! As well as changing the type field I had to recode the movies to mp4 as well. So I will just have move forward unless I want do html myself. It's been a while and  I'm sure html5 will take some learning...
