I've done everything reformatted, then scanned for errors, bur then it has a problem syncing everything. And eventually will stop and give an error message, and see on the ipod that it sometimes alternates from saying synchronizing to connected. It appears better to just add a playlist or 2 at a time, Looks like the HD may also be failing although the scan finds no problems. Do the stores still have that battery replacement program where you pay them about 79 bucks and they give you a refurbished ipod?
What are the stats?
Try Apple - Support - Service Answer Center and click on repair pricing. I suspect if you go for the battery service you're not going to get a free replacement hard drive. If you actually want a new battery these are closer to $5 than $59 if you're prepared to fit it yourself.

this particular ipod was gotten at an apple store when I had a battery that didn't hold the charge. They just gave me a refurbished I pod for $69 i think
retracks 19
reallocs 4920
pending sectors 528
poweron hours 781
start/stop 53465
temp min 59c
temp max 250c
Those stats don't look too healthy. As long are there are pending sectors you are likely to suffer from freezes, however clearing them out can be a bit hit & miss. A restore ought to do it, but doesn't always. A sure fire method is using a Mac and then Windows again (or vice versa if you normally use a Mac). A few thousand reallocs is OK if the problem isn't getting worse, but chances are that it is. The reallocation system maxes out at 16384. The temperature don't really make sense but may still imply some degree of overheating at some point which won't have done the unit any good.

hi, I thought this was fixed, but getting incomplete songs synced to my ipod, so you're saying do a restore on a mac, then a restore on windows? (i use windows), thanks
Yes, that method should release all pending sectors since the file system gets rewritten in both cases.

when I plugged into a mac, I wasn't able to find how to restore, however I'm not to familiar with macs. I saw the option to erase which i did but not to restore, should I restore on windows first?
Restore is a feature of iTunes. It should appear on the device's summary page when looked at with iTunes. Erase on Mac will do the same as format on Windows. It may sometimes help to do this, particularly if restore doesn't free up the pendings.
