Does iPhone 6s Work with CarPlay?

Just installed a new CarPlay system (Kenwood DDX9902). My brand new iPhone 6s+ won't connect with it via USB. (If I go to Settings-->General-->CarPlay, while connected, it endlessly spins, trying to find the car). When I plug in my old iPhone 6+, however, CarPlay fires right up. Both phones are running the latest version of iOS, 9.1.

Any notion what it is about the 6s that's throwing off CarPlay?

For the record, I've:

* Updated the firmware on the Kenwood

* Tried Restoring the 6s+ and setting it up as a New iPhone

* Tried three separate lightning cables

I was able to successfully connect my phone to an identical stereo in the audio shop. The engineers at the shop believe they found a solution. Apparently, the 6s and 6s+ are more susceptible to resistance in the lightning cable. The cable that runs (in the dash) between my car's USB port and the stereo unit is too long, causing too much resistance. They believe that shortening the internal cable will correct the problem; work is scheduled for early next week.

If this is true, it might explain a rash of CarPlay and syncing problems with the 6s and 6s+.

I have the same problem with iPhone 6s Plus. My wife's iPhone 6, kids iPhone 5s all work fine. Even my iPad. But the 6s Plus I just bought says "USB Device Connected is not Supported" or something like that. Alpine iLX-007 here. I have had this radio for a year and Alpine has issued zero updates so I am thinking there is something different with the 6s Plus...of note, my radio is connected on the iPhone in Settings-->General-->CarPlay from what I can tell, but I can't use it.
