Nov 19, 2015 8:39 PM in response to John Linkby ChrisJ4203,The latest version of iOS for the iPhone 4 is iOS 7.2.1, so you need not worry about the horror stories people are spreading about iOS 9.x. The iPhone 4 will run on iOS 7.2.1. But you are correct, you will not be able to get iOS 6 for your device.

Nov 19, 2015 8:43 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by John Link,I remember reading that iOS 7 would cause an iPhone 4 to run very slowly. Is that correct?
Are you the Chris with whom I've communicated about Final Cut?

Nov 19, 2015 8:46 PM in response to John Linkby ChrisJ4203,I could not say, but most times problems like that are traced to individual phones. However, there is no way to restore without installing the latest iOS for your particular device.
No, as I know absolutely nothing about Final Cut. You would be able to see that person's profile name in any thread you were communicating with.

Nov 19, 2015 8:55 PM in response to John Linkby gail from maine,★HelpfulIf it helps, my iPhone 4 is running on 7.1.2, and I have not had any issues. How many GB is your iPhone 4? Mine is a 16GB device, and I don't have a ton of apps, but I do have a lot of photos, music, books, and have only 1.4 GB available, so it is being used close to capacity.
Just wanted to share
Cheers,
GB

Nov 19, 2015 9:01 PM in response to John Linkby ChrisJ4203,You're welcome. Good luck. Gail probably provides the best information, as she is still using an iPhone 4. I had a 4s, but replaced that some time ago. I had a 5s, but am now using a 6s.

Nov 19, 2015 9:16 PM in response to John Linkby gail from maine,Go to Settings>General>About, and see how much "Available" you have. If you have a GB or so, you should be fine

Nov 19, 2015 9:24 PM in response to gail from maineby John Link,I know how to check the settings to see how large the phone is, but I can't do that until the phone is reset to factory settings.

Nov 19, 2015 9:29 PM in response to John Linkby gail from maine,Sorry - missed that in your first post. Not sure what state your device is in right now? The device has a message that is telling you to reset it to Factory Settings? Or is it on the Recovery Mode screen (USB cable and iTunes logo)?
And "Available" is how much you have left not the size. That is under "Capacity".

Nov 19, 2015 9:39 PM in response to John Linkby John Link,I think my phone may be dead. Below is the message I received when I tried to restore it.

The More Information button took me to this page: Resolve iOS update and restore errors in iTunes - Apple Support That page suggests restarting both the computer and the phone and disconnecting all extra USB cables. I'll try that but I'm not optimistic.

Nov 19, 2015 9:57 PM in response to John Linkby gail from maine,So, does it seem to be updating now? (fingers crossed...)
If it isn't, then the specific troubleshooting for an Error 2 is:
Check your security software
Errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1611, 9006.
Sometimes security software can stop your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't blocking a connection to the Apple servers.
If you still see the error message, check for USB connection issues.
The Security Software link goes to here: Resolve issues between iTunes and third-party security software - Apple Support
Sorry - your additional screens weren't showing on your post above when I posted this back.
So, it looks like it is updating now?
Cheers,
GB
