I have a cannon mg3200 printer/scanner. I can print on this from my MacBook Air, but I can not scan. I can scan from an iPad and phone but the Mac does not recognise that the printer also scans. Can anybody help

I have tried the Preview file - import from scanner - the Import from scanner is greyed out.

The image capture does not have any any devices on it so i am unable to scan.

Systems preferences - when i go into the printer/scanners - there is no scanner listed just shows printer.

I have the OS X `yosemite 10.10.5- There is no update showing for OS X

I also have the Cannon inkjet printer software

Do i need to download anything else

How are you attempting to scan when using your MBA?

As of "Lion" and later versions of OS X all scanning functions are incorporated natively in OS X.

You can scan at least three ways:

  • Use Preview: File > Import from scanner
  • Use Image Capture

(Preview and Image Capture are both in your Applications folder.)

  • System Preferences > Print & Scan. Select your device and use the Scan tab.
