iPhone not anylonger recognized in iTunes

My iPhone 4s no longer shows in iTunes. I get promted to update to the latest version of iTunes but I already have the latest version 11.4 installed.

All I can think of,

1st - has it got anything to do with my computer as I still use Mac OS X version 10.6.8 and this version is not compatible any longer with the lastest software installed on my iPhone which is iOS 9.1 ??

2nd - Since I last updated my iPhone I have now to use a "Password" to get access to my phone. Can this cause iTunes not to recognize my phone anymore??

3rd - If I check the Software update on my computer I get prompted with a tick in the little square box to update to "Migration Assistant Update for Snowleopard" and that this provides compatibility for migrating to a Mac running OS X Mavericks. But I don't have this system installed on my Mac.

Please can anybody give me some advice??

Very much appreciated and thanks for your help in advance.

Monique

#2 & #3 have nothing to do with this issue. A device running iOS9 requires iTunes 12.3 which in turn only installs on a Mac running OSX 10.8.5 or higher. You can buy a download code for 10.8 from the Apple Store, or you can upgrade to OSX 10.11 for free, if either is even possible with your computer. Or you can learn how to use a device in a limited capacity without using iTunes.

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite/El Capitan.

To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.

iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher

MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher El Capitan requires early 2015

MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher

MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher

Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher

Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher

Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher

Your Mac needs:

OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed

2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)

8 GB or more of available space

Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

Application Compatibility

Applications Compatibility (2)

El Capitan 10.11 Compatibility information

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.

Hi Eric.

Thanks ever so much for your reply.

I will put the maximum of memory on my Computer and then upgrade to El Capitan. However, I'm not very brave to do this and might try to get some assistance from an Apple specialist. This might also solve my problem with Safari which is now out of date quite often and I have to use Firefox.

Best Regards Monique

Hi

I have the same problem with my Iphone5 iso 9.0, but the mini ipad iso 9.0 it connect perfectly with my macbook OS 10.6.8.

Look the review on El Capitan on apple store before install it: very poor performance and bugs!

it's should be helpful that apple fixes this problem first on iso 9.1, instead suggest to install an unstable software.

they are gaining $billion$, a they cannot find an engineer to fix this issue!?
