Q: Kernel Panic 10.9.5 - started 3 days ago

So, this is a problem that just started about 3 days ago.  I recently purchased a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter to connect a second monitor and when waking from screen sleep, the system had restarted itself.  It has done so twice this morning, once with the new adapter disconnected.  Below is the latest report.  Any thoughts?

    Try turning off/disabling Little Snitch.

I recently purchased a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter to connect a second monitor and when waking from screen sleep, the system had restarted itself.

Yes, give disabling LittleSnitch a try, but if that changes nothing, then I would start looking the HDMI adaptor

The kernel backtrace is in the graphic stack, which is a 1-for-1 correlation with attaching a HDMI adapter and an external monitor

It has done so twice this morning, once with the new adapter disconnected.

Did you disconnect before going to sleep?  After going to sleep?  Or before the system booted, so that the current OS X load never had to initialize anything to handle the external monitor?

I do not know if the problem is with OS X sofware, Mac graphics hardware, the adapter, or the external monitor.  Only that the backtrace was graphics related, and the most recent change was to add an HDMI adaptor which would involve the graphics software (and hardware) in the Mac.

The crash happened with leaving the in place while the machine underwent it's usual sleep display after 3 minutes.  It's only purpose is to let me watch movies, etc. on my TV and will never be used for a primary monitor.  After leaving the adapter disconnected, except when wanting to feed the TV, and adjusting the sleep time to slightly longer to prevent it from kicking off while I briefly run around the house, no more panics.

Little Snitch has been running since I purchased the machine in January with no issues.

I know HDMI cables can have the little DMCA chips quit if they are connected/disconnected frequently.  If I plug the adapter into the Thunderbolt port once or twice a day should I be concerned about the port on the Mac Mini?  (cables and adapters are easily replaced and cheap relative to a repair)

and adjusting the sleep time to slightly longer to prevent it from kicking off while I briefly run around the house, no more panics.

There are utilities that can keep your Mac from sleeping.  Search the App Store for apps such as "caffeine".  You could use one of those when you have the adapter attached, to keep your Mac from sleeping.

Also this does really say there is an issue using this adapter.  It is possible it is the specific adapter.  Do you have the option of trying another?

If I plug the adapter into the Thunderbolt port once or twice a day should I be concerned about the port on the Mac Mini?  (cables and adapters are easily replaced and cheap relative to a repair)

I would not think so, but I would exercise care in not yanking the cable out or JAMMING the cable in (which I expect you do not do anyway).

I think your Mac may work with AirPlay.  You could use an AppleTV to connect your Mac to the TV over your home network.  Although I would ONLY do that if you wanted the other features of an AppleTV and not just for making this connection.  Then again, with the 4th gen AppleTV out, you might be able to get a good deal on a used 3rd gen AppleTV.

But of course it would also be cheaper to explore alternate HDMI adapters.  Maybe something you could do in an Apple Store at the Genius bar.
