Q: how to create a working partition?

hello everyone

is it possible to set up a seconded readable drive for bootcamp? i have windows 7 professional and need to install drivers.. i tried partitioning my external hard drive but that don't seem to work..

I'm running el capitan on mid 2010 mbp 15" intel 2.66 ghz i7 - 4 gb 1067 mhz ddr3

help, anyone?

A:

Use BC Assistant, and download BC Drivers for Windows 7 from Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support a USB2 Flash drive, switch to Windows, run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder on the USB.

Partitioning of a BC drive which has Windows installed can cause Windows to stop booting.

What is the partitioning scheme and format of filesystems on the external hdd? Connect the HDD, and check in Disk Utility.

1. Depending on which version of Windows you have, click on the link, and download the .zip file to a directory and expand it.

2. Download Paragon NTFS for Mac and install it. It will give you read-write access to Windows partition from the OS X side.

3. Copy the folder (where you decompressed the downloaded .zip) to a known location on the Windows side.

4. Boot into Windows and from the known location in step 3, run setup.exe in Bootcamp folder and install/repair drivers.

thanks that makes sense to me. one final question.

can i partition the windows hdd section into bigger space with out deleting the files?

Apple does not support resizing once Windows is installed. Third-party products like Winclone or CampTune will let you do this. Clonezilla can clone as well.

alright thanks for the help. I'm going to try everything you suggested including the ntfs application and tell you how it goes.

i did it to my self.. i was half sleep trying to do it and i ended up partitioning the wrong hdd.. deleted the 7 .. now i have to play the waiting game .. unless i can do it with a upgrade dvd

Did you partition your W7/OSX disk instead of the USB2 flash drive? Was a new partition created, or was the entire internal disk with OSX/Windows erased?

yea it erase.. but i got a upgrade disc so ima see if i can get it to work with out having previous windows.

how can i erase one of the drives that became when partitioned.. I'm trying to merge it so i can run boot camp but its not letting me.
