Podcast App doesn't restart playing in BlueTooth enabled car

I recently made the mistake of updating to IOS 9, should have left the **** thing alone. The particular problem I'm having is that if I'm listening to a Podcast using BlueTooth on any car (I've tried it on my own car and several rental cars) and I stop the car the play stops as expected. When I get back to the car, assuming the car connects to BlueTooth (not always a given), the music player is blaring away with what appears to be a random track rather than resuming the play of the podcast.

I'd also like to know if there is any way that the podcast could be paused during play when the audio is interrupted by navigation or notifications. This is a feature I've never gotten to work with iPhones. Both Android and Windows Phones do this by default, and its one of the irritations of using an iPhone.

Thanks. I appreciate any help I can get.

BTW, if the answer is to use a different PodCast app, I can do that too. The only good thing I can say about the Apple Podcast app so far is that it manages to reliably bring down content.
