Q: New to iCloud - Orientation

I've had Apple's iWork software for several years... dating back to when you bought it in a box labeled iWork. (Actually, I bought Keynote when it first came out.)

I watched Apple Keynote presentations in recent years with great interest. I understand there is a cloud-based setup now where one can use iWork apps on a computer, a tablet or a smartphone through a web-browser.

A friend and I may collaborate on a Pages document. My friend uses an HP Windows laptop PC. I'm on an iMac. I understand that it's possible to use iWork for iCloud for collaboration.

Where do you learn about this cloud-based solution? Are there tutorials? What about on Lynda.com? Which ones will help there?

Is this cloud-based solution simply a way to use your iCloud account? Is it free? If there is a subscription-fee service, what do you get for it? I already have an AppleID, but I haven't done anything with iCloud. How is this related to iCloud drive?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), late-2013 Core i5 2.9 GHz, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HD

    Hi Walt,

I will try to answer as many questions as possible, regarding collaboration, you can of course use a Mac and your friend can you a PC to collaborate, bear in mind that perhaps he should use Chrome as there has been some problems with IE.

Regarding the fees, you can now open for free an iCloud account and you will have 5GB of storage, you can of course pay to have more storage in the cloud, as far as I am concerned I am paying 0.99$ for 50GB/year which in my opinion is very interesting.

Should you have iOS devices (since iPad3 or iPhone5) iWork is free so you can work across devices which is very nice!!

I hope this will help you!!

    Daniel,

What about iCloud Drive? Is that free with the 5 gigabytes, or is the Drive a pay option?
