Q: If I sent an iMessage, that failed and sent as a text message, is it possible the receiver still received an iMessage?

I sent an iMessage to an established connection who I know has iMessage.  The iMessage failed and sent as a text message.  The receiver stated they still received an iMessage, is this possible?  I thought it was only iMessage to iMessage and text to text.  Thanks!

Yes it is possible. I send messages to my wife and kids who all have iOS devices and sometimes the messages go through on my end as SMS and they are received as iMessages. I'm still not sure how that is possible, but I assume that if the sender doesnt have a strong WiFi connection it will be sent as SMS even though it is sent as an iMessage.
