    all printers speak their own "language" this on computers mean one has to install a device driver many common printers have given the operating system makers drivers they can include if not one needs to install it from the printer makers site

     

    with ios devices one does not have device drivers so there are 2 ways to print

    1 a printing app it can be made by the printer manufacture like with my Samsung wifi printer or it can be an app which support a wide range of printer models (these usually cost money)

     

    2 apple make a default "language" called airprint if the printer manufacture choose to support this generic language it works out of the box

    you may want to fsearch your printer model to see if is AirPrint enabled here About AirPrint - Apple Support

     

    otherwise if is not compatible remember you can also browse the apps store for the official manufacture's app if is available on the apps store
