My iphone and ipad d no longer synchronise itunes with my Windows computer. The pop up windows says "The iphone/ipad cannot be used since it needs a newer versin of itunes". But both the computer and the iphone has the most recent version of iTunes.

    Greetings Hille@,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that your iOS devices, iPhone and iPad, are no longer able to sync with iTunes on your Windows computer and you are receiving an alert that this is because iTunes needs to be updated.

To begin troubleshooting this situation, I would first suggest checking for the version number of iTunes currently installed on your computer.

        1. First you will need to make sure the menu bar is visible. You can do this by following the instructions in this article.

        2. Once you can see the menu bar, choose Help.

        3. Now choose About iTunes from the Help window that opens.

The most current version of iTunes is 12.3.1. If you have an earlier version, try updating iTunes using the instructions in the following article.

Get the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support

If you do have the latest version of iTunes, please let us know so that we can continue to help you troubleshoot this situation. If you do need to reply, let us know what version of iOS is on your iPhone and iPad as well. This information can be found under Settings > General > About as described here

    Have a great day!

Given that you are indicating you have the latest version of iTunes, it would help tremendously if you identified exactly what Windows OS you are using? Considering you have an older iPhone, I'm wondering if you are using XP or Vista. If so, you will need a special version of iTunes for any iOS device using the newer versions of iOS. It should not affect your iPhone, since your profile indicates an iPhone 4, but you do not provide any information about your iPad.
