weird spacebar playback activity

I use an akai LPD8 to control MainStage. Sometimes I hit the spacebar in error to start playback but when I do it plays the backtracks in slow-motion. From then the same happens to the pad that I've assigned to playback on the akai. The only way I can fix it is to restart MainStage. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong?
