shapes in Keynote?

is there a way to change the default (first shape) in Keynote? Every time I pick a shape I have to change it to the same thing every time and my choice is not one of the templates (defaults).

There is no method to set up a default custom shape in Keynote.

If you regularly want to use a specific custom designed shape, either create a custom theme place the custom shape on the master slide then file > save theme

or create a new presentation to use as a library of shapes and images which can be copied into any other presentation when required.

apart from the annoyance of repeatedly having to remove all the excess effects, it's a real pain

In a new presentation, place a shape on a slide, position and size it.

Change the colour, border, shadow, reflection and opacity as needed.

Do not add effects.

Save the presentation.

Add additional shapes with different attributes when required.

Copy and paste this shape in to as many new or existing presentations as required.

No pain involved.
