How do I use a DAC with my late 2014 Mac mini?

Which DAC did you have in mind?

It is a Musical Fidelity V90-DAC. I've had it four days and it sounds very good but after playing an album it shuts off and the next time I use it the only way I can do so is by unplugging the power cord or the USB cable to the Mac Mini and then plugging the power cord or cable back in again.
Make sure the energy settings are preventing sleep, or find "Caffeine" in the Mac App Store. Also, to get the maximum performance from your DAC, use an Audiophile player such as http://www.audiofile-engineering.com/fidelia/ or http://audirvana.com/

Thanks for the player suggestions. I'll look into both of them. I'll also look into the sleep issue and get back to you.
Yesterday I prevented sleep for the hard drive and have had no further difficulties. Thank you very much Michael for your spot on suggestion.
