Icon on safari dock

Hi, I was going through my browsing history and saw a link that looked like a text line (a bit like java script). I clicked on it and a new safari window opened and closed immediately. I then realised that I had an icon between my applications' icons and trash that I can't delete or eject. When I click on the icon nothing happens.Has anyone seen a similar icon and do you know how to delete it? Thanks

When I click on it I get a menu but no option to see in Finder. I get the 'turn hiding off, turn magnification off, position on screen, minimize using and dock preferences'. The mouse pointer also changes when I put it on the icon - it turns into an horizontal line with an arrow on each side. I tried to take a picture but it does not show. When I click and try to drag the icon, the latter does not move. Thanks for your help.

You are welcome.

Try doing a Dock restart using the following Terminal command:

killall Dock

Log out/in and test. If that doesn’t work, you need to look in your user Library/Applications Support/Dock for the .db. Use the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Applications Support/Dock. Move the .db to your desktop.

Then try a dock reset.

Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command

killall Dock

Log out/in test. If it works okay, delete the .db from the desktop.

If the Dock is the same, return the .db to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.

If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Learned from leonie.
