Q: Updated 4s to iOS9.1, Now have signal issues

Hi Everybody,

Many thanks for taking the time to view (and hopefully fix) my issue ....

I recently updated to iOS 9.1 as prompted by my iPhone 4s. Before the update, my phone has been working without issue day after day.

As soon as the update completed, my network signal information in the top left hand corner is continuously flicking from 'searching...' to 'no service' to a full network signal. This is a continuous cycle and the cycle each time lasts approximately 4 minutes. Each time the network signal does pop up, i still can't make or receive any calls

The bottom line is that i can't make or receive calls, text or data transmissions since upgrading a fully functioning phone to iOS 9.1.

It is also worth noting that i have tried downgrading to iOS9.0.2 and also back to 8.4.1 but each time i get an error staing there was an error and the phone could not be updated.

Please Help !

Downgrading is not supported by Apple, so there would be no way for you to do this. What troubleshooting have you tried? User troubleshooting consists of restart, reset, restore from backup, restore to factory. Test after each step. You can also take a look at this support document for the no signal error. If you can't connect to a cellular network or cellular data - Apple Support

Thanks for such a speedy response ... I have tried all user troubleshooting with the exception of restoring from back-up as i have been told it is not possible to restore an iOS 8 back-up to an iOS9 operating system. Nothing else has worked ... The no signal support document is based on a signal not being received - I am receiving one intermittently, its just not working - My carrier being displayed on the mobile also seems to suggest it is not a hardware aerial issue either?

You can restore an iOS 8 backup to an iOS 9 operating system. You cannot do the other way around. You can use an older backup on a newer device. Have you contacted your carrier and asked them for assistance? Check with them about getting a new SIM.

Thanks again for the lightning response ... My carrier has already changed the sim card just in case but made no difference ... Their response was 'it happens sometimes, have you contacted Apple?' ... The usual one passing me off to the other.

How can i restore the back-up - Through iTunes?

Through iTunes or iCloud, whichever you use for your backup. Take a look at this support document for assistance with both methods. Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support
