Q: itunes too old for new iphone

I currently have an older MacBook running MAC OS x 10.6.8 and iTunes version 6.1.6. I can't upgrade to any later iTunes version due to the OS I am running.

I will be receiving a new iphone 6s soon and am wondering if it will work with my older iTunes version which I have been using to sync with my current iPod touch?

Thanks in advance!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I don't believe syncing of the new iPhone 6S on iOS 9 will work with that old version of iTunes.

I actually quit syncing my iPhone to iTunes years ago. If you switch to iCloud backups on the iPhone and use iCloud syncing for your contacts etc then you really shouldn't need to continue iTunes syncing unless you need it for music or other media content.

Unfortunately No. You will not be able to use your iPhone 6s with such an old version of iTunes.

The specifications page for the iPhone 6 states the following requirements:

    • Mac: OS X v10.8.5 or later
    • PC: Windows 7 or later
    • iTunes 12.3 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)

Until you have a new Mac to work with, you can use iCloud to do much of what iTunes used to be required for but not the local syncing that you are used to from Mac to iPhone.
