Dark areas on iMacs Display!

I have noticed a small grey degrade on my iMac left bottom corner about a month ago. Recently I noticed the same problem on the top left of the screen, though not at the corner but a few centimeters close to the corner.
Does anyone know what this is? Can I fix it? Do I have to sent it for fixing?
Does anyone else have the same problem?

I was with this problem at the Apple service - in Hungary - and they will change the LCD panel. If your warranty still alive, you have to try. i'm positive they have to change for you also. My iMac is only three month old. =o( But will get a new screen. =o)))

I also noticed exactly the same grey thing exactly the same place. Well I nitoced it aprx two weeks ago but i thought it is only dirty.Today i cleaned the screen, but the grey shadow still always on the corner of the screen. At the left-bottom bigger and darker like on the left-top. I bought the iMac three month ago, and i am sure there was not any darker place in the corner.

Hello Glannis

Maybe this is not a solution but you could try a different desktop image, see if some other colors work better in the corners of your display.
Go to: Apple / System Preferences / Desktop & Screensaver / Desktop and try selecting a different desktop image or a photo from your iPhoto Library.

I have this problem since I bought the iMac 20" Core Due. First time I reported this incident and I got a replacement. I have the same problem after I have the replacement for about 3 months. Unfortuneately, Apple only arrange the replacement of LCD only and the LCD parts are out of stock right now with no idea when it will be available. Shame on Apple to deliever this poor "Q" iMac.

I am having the same problem. Photos can be seen at http://obi.sytes.net:85/screen_problem/index.html. Tried all the ghosting and pixel fixing applications but none of them worked.
Am also looking for a solution if there is any that doesn't involve sending the computer back for repairs if I am at all viable for reparis after 6 months without apple care just a regular warranty?

Hi! Dont worry abuot the AppleCare. If your regular warranty still alive, they HAVE to change the LCD panel.
I have also just the regular warranty,
and they - the service - changed the panel. Sorry to say, but the second panel was more uglier than the the original, so they changed it again, but i'm not satisfied with this THIRD LCD panel also.
The backlight is shining through from the black screen more than the original - if i see a movie for example - and the black is not black, but purple. So i try to ask them to change the whole machine.

Hello

My iMac returned from repair yesterday afternoon (after 11 days), the AASP replaced the Display. Had luck, the new Display is 100% errorfree, no pixelerrors, all parts of the screen have the same good brightness, no problems with black backgrounds, black is really black, im a very happy Mac User again. 🙂

Hi. I have a similar problem. The bottom left corner of my screen is slightly dark. It's not too bad at the moment and I can ignore it. I'm just worried that it might get worse. Is this likely to happen? Do these dark areas spread out over time? The dark area on my mac doesn't seem to have changed in the last month. Also does anyone know what causes this?

Hello

Is it just generally a little darker than other parts of the screen, or does it look as shown on the photos of users in this thread?

For example: http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/7886/bild2bm4.png

I had it dark as visibile on the example pic, it stayed for 2-3 months, growed then within the next months and a lot of other dark areas in different sizes became visible on the Screen (they increased like guinea pigs), looked like someone with oil on his fingers touched the Display, but it wasnt possible to wipe them away.

I had the dark areas in follow places of the screen:
Bottom left corner
Upper left corner till almost the middle of the screen with many little and 2 bigger dark areas)
Upper right corner (it was there 10 x 20 cm with many little and bigger dark areas) from top till the End of the Superdrive slot.

The nearest german AASP to my Hometown didnt say what the reason for the dark areas is, he simply replaced the Display.

I have the same problem. Dark Areas on the top right corner and some dark pixel on the bottom left corner.
I try to open a ticket with the "request repair service online " but in the web page : Request Product Service->1. Product Info the question "What can we help you with today?" is bugged, i can select only "Repair a part or accessory".
Web developers please fix this problem 🙂
