Mic on apple headphones with windows laptop?

Lately, I've been using more voice programs. I need my microphone to work. I'm trying to use the mic on my apple headphones, but it won't work! The sound comes through just fine, but windows won't detect the headphones. Should I mention my laptop only has one mic/audio jack? It's sort of a combination port. Is there a certain type of splitter I can buy, or software I can download that will let me use the mic and the headphones at the same time? These are honestly my favorite headphones :/
