Q: iMessages not syncing?!

Hello!

Straight to the point!

The Problem

I have a problem with all my apple devices from yesterday. For some reason, I do not get iMessages synced on my iphone and on my Macbook Pro, iMac or iPad.

If let's say, I send a message to someone from my phone, I don't get any syncing on the other devices. But if it's from the other devices (Macbook Pro, iMac or iPad), my iPhone iMessages are not synced.

I don't know what's the issue is. The iOS has been buggy lately and asking for my apple account's password every now and then, and I don't know why.

Here are more details for each device:

The devices

iPhone 5, iOS 9.1 (13B143)

iMac 21.5" Late 2013,  OS X 10.11.1 (15B42), 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 4+4 RAM DDR3

Macbook Pro 15.4" Late 2013, OS X 10.11 Beta (15A278b), 2.3Ghz Intel Core i7, 16GB Ram DDR3

iPad Air, iOS 9.1 (13B143)

All devices are working under the same wifi network and up-to-date.

What I've tried so far

I tried login out from iCloud, login back in, restarting all devices, nothing. I tried to delete my icloud account from my iphone and then sign back in, nothing. All devices are signed with the same account. For some reason, the issue started yesterday and haven't really done anything special with the phone (haven't updated it, haven't installed/removed anything).

My friends told me that if I send a message from my iPhone for example and then send a message from either iMac, iPad or Macbook Pro, they receive it as a new conversation (and I haven't started it as a new conversation).

The issue seems to be with my phone, because the other 3 devices are synced. So, I'm not sure how to solved this.

iPhone 5, iOS 9.1, iMessage

This is the one thing that you say that seems to stand out. If on the phone you go to Settings>Messages>Text Message Forwarding, do you have anything selected there? If you go to Send & Receive, what is marked there, the phone number should be gray and have a checkmark, and then anything else you want to use from the phone. On the iPad, since that is what I have marked on my iPhone for Text Message Forwarding, I only have my phone number checked, and it is gray and checked, just like the phone. As far as the Mac, since I'm not a Mac user, I cannot address that, but this might help understand where some of the issue is with the different conversations.

cIf on the phone you go to Settings>Messages>Text Message Forwarding, do you have anything selected there?

    - I don't have that option under Settings > Messages on my iPhone?!

If you go to Send & Receive, what is marked there, the phone number should be gray and have a checkmark, and then anything else you want to use from the phone.

    - I do see my phone number in grey with a checkmark as well!

On the iPad, since that is what I have marked on my iPhone for Text Message Forwarding, I only have my phone number checked, and it is gray and checked, just like the phone.

    - On my iPad (under Messages > Send & Receive) I see my apple's email address checked, not my phone number. Should I change it?

NOTE: I see all devices (except the iphone) that they are using my apple email ID, not my phone. Probably I need to change iphone setting for this to be apple ID as well... It makes no sense because I haven't touched it and it was working just fine till yesterday

    THE FIX:

I needed to add my email under my iPhone phone number in (Settings > Messages > Send & Receive). I have my phone number with grey letters and underneath it I've added my apple ID and it fixed the syncing issue.

If you do not have the Text Message Forwarding, it appears that all devices are not logged in with the same Apple ID.

The only way to get the phone number checked on the iPad is with the Text Message Forwarding, which then requires a code be sent to the device. See this support document and see if this helps you fix your settings. Link your iPhone number and Apple ID to use iMessage and FaceTime - Apple Support
