disable app nap on new 12 inch macbook

I have recently bought the 12"macbook and since the very beginning i have had a feeling that the battery was not that great. Recently since i have been doing a lot of research on the internet and looking into reasons why it could be substantially different than the 13.3 " macbook air i owned previously, i have come to the conclusion that one of the factors could be the app nap feature introduced since mavericks came out.

Surprisingly, i have this feature unchecked / disabled - yet the mac keeps waking up for checking emails and leaves the macbook with a lower battery. I have verified by checking this in the activity monitor and changing the checked / unchecked status does not help.

i have tried to look around and found some terminal commands i could run but none of them are specific to El Captain OS.

I would appreciate if someone could help me with this.

I believe you are confusing two different features, both of which are supported by your MacBook:

You must be talking about Power Nap here, since App Nap cannot be "unchecked".

Note Power Nap has two places to check/uncheck it: one under "Battery" and one under "Power Adapter".
