Is there a limit on the number of photos in a slideshow?

A slideshow using my entire Photos library seems for settle on

a sample less than the library. If I delete photos from the show

a different sample seems to appear. Does anyone understand

the limits - if there be any? Thanks, Tom

I'm interested in both screen saver and albums. There may be a diff. but

tv lets you set sources for each - and each provides my Entire Library

(album) as an option. I just don't understand how this works. What is

happening during "Loading?" Photos must be loading the tv itself because

even though storage isn't user accessible on my Gen 3. once loaded the

slideshow or album keeps right on playing when not connected to Wifi - nor

for that matter is my Mac (on Wifi) . True, I haven't counted the no. of photos

displayed but it seems to draw from a wide range of the 9,000 pic library.

Note: Gen 3 has 8GB storage (Wikipedia). Is Loading a "triage" to a subset

that will fit a portion of my 60GB Library? Thanks for your response. Tom

All Apple TVs have storage.

A slideshow needs your Mac to be connected, it plays photos from your computer but probably builds an ongoing buffer on the device itself as it runs. I'm not aware of any limit but there might be, I've run slideshows with up to 500 slides without a problem, I haven't had cause to run any larger slideshows, my guess is it will play all the photos in the album or library depending on your settings, but can't say his for certain as I have no proof.

Screensavers load maybe up to around 100 photos from the source you set, regardless of how large the source is. These photos are kept on the Apple TV so they can be played when the computer isn't available. If you have chosen your screensaver from an album with lots of photos or even chosen your whole library, when it connects to your computer again it will change some of the images it has stored internally so that your screensaver is varied over time.
