I understand that you are trying to get your TV Shows to your iPod but are getting an alert to check your connection. Let's see if we can get this sorted out.
There are two things that come to mind with your error. The first makes it sound like iTunes need to be connected to the internet. I would start with the first article to ensure that iTunes can access the iTunes Store.

Another thing that comes to mind is that it might be related to the connect over USB. I would take a look at the second article to test with a different cable or port on your computer to get your TV Shows to sync over.
