Is it possible to hack mac and if so what is preventive measures?
Yes. Don't let anyone have physical contact with your Mac.

Thanks for your reply. Is there any chance to steal the data stored in the Mac when it is connected to wi - fi. I have installed Mcafree total protection also.
MacAfee is a worthless scam. It does far more harm then good. I suggest you uninstall it.
Please download and install EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Run it and post the report here. So can check out what is on your Mac.
