can we make phone calls using external microphone for iphone?

I read in many places that we can record audio/videos with better sound quality using external microphones with the help of some 3rd party adaptors. I am wondering if we can make phone calls using those external microphones not. Can we talk from external microphone and hear from iphone loud speaker or bluetooth speakers? I am not sure how iphone takes input once we enable load speaker, does it take input from iphone microphone or from external microphone?

I would say when a headset is connected to the minijack connector it mutes everything else there are connectors that split mic and audio out though making it possible to connect both an external mic and a headset to the converter

Wouldn't a simple bluetooth headset fit your requirements? Do you really want to carry a phone with a microphone hanging off a metre of cable plugged into an adapter?
