Rode VideoMic Pro

I have purchased a new retina MacBook Pro 15" and a Rode VideoMic Pro that I use with my Canon 6D but I would also like to be able to use it with my laptop. I have also bought this: RØDE SC4 Which allows the microphone to be used on an iPhone or Android phone, and since the Mac has the same audio port as an iPhone I thought it would work with it too, but it doesn't. What could I do to make it work?

Thank you

Hello elrumo,
That is a good question on if you can use the Rode VideoMic Pro on your MacBook Pro. You are correct in plugging this into the headphone jack as this acts as input and output for sound. The best way to figure this out is to see if it shows up as an input device in System Preferences.
Plug the microphone in and then open up System Preferences, click Sound and then click Input. You should see a list of input devices like Internal Microphone. If your Mac recognizes that it is a Microphone, it would show up here and can select it as the choice for using a microphone.
Check out the articles below for more details on changing your settings for the mic and the tech specs speak to the features the headphone port.
