Find out what you need to charge the battery and what to do if you see a low-battery alert on your device.
When your iPhone or iPod touch is on, you’ll see the battery indicator in the upper-right corner of the screen. This shows how much battery life is left. You can also show the battery percentage in the status bar on your iPhone.
Plug in to a power source
Use the USB cable that came with your device and plug in to one of these power sources (if you’re using a third-party cable or accessory, make sure it’s Apple certified).
- Power outlet: Use a USB power adapter and connect to a power outlet.
- Computer: Make sure your computer is on and not in sleep mode, then connect to a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port. Don’t use the USB ports on your keyboard.
- Other USB power source: You can use a powered USB hub, docking station, or other accessory to charge your device.
When your device is charging, you’ll see a small lightning bolt next to the battery
. Learn what to do if your device doesn't charge when you plug it in.If you see this screen, it means your battery is really low. Plug in your device and let it charge for at least 10 minutes before using it. After that, you can use your device while it continues to charge.
If your device has turned off, you might see a black screen for a few minutes even after you plug it in. Let it charge until it turns on, or until it's fully charged.
