Which iPad for drawing?

Hi!

My 12 year old daughter is asking for an iPad for Christmas to start learning to draw on the adope apps. I have an iPad Air 2 and the screen technology was changed and turns out its not the best for drawing with a stylus (loses connection constantly). I am looking to get her an iPad mini 3 or 4, but don't want to get her the 4 if it has the same screen technology as the Air 2. Does the mini 4 have the same screen issues at the Air 2?

If I were to get her the 3, any ideas how long it would be useful, before os updates shut it down?

Thanks so much for any advice/help!!!

No promises, but I'm still using my iPad 2 which is over 4 years old and technically still supports the latest iOS (although to be honest I'm still running 7 on it)

So in theory a 3rd gen should be functional for several years. However, at the end of the day, Apple does what Apple does and they never give out any sort of end of life date. Then again, whenever your device ages out of the iOS updates, it'll still work just fine with the iOS it has now. The only issue I run into is if I'm looking for apps I will find some that demand iOS 8 or above.....of course if I'm happy with the apps I have now (and i am) then I really don't care that I am limited to what I can install.

I could guess that if you get her the 3 you should get at least a few years out of it.

What Bluetooth stylus are you using with your iPad Air 2?

I am using a Bluetooth Adonit Jot Touch with Pixelpoint on a new iPad Pro and it is working just fine and dandy and keeps a connection.

Not sure where your pricepoint or budget is for this.

i am NOT a fan of the smaller iPads for drawing.

The standard size iPads are much better for drawing and drawings apps and the original iPad Air doesn't use the newer screen technology of the iPad Air 2.

BTW, ALL of the stylus makers have finally worked out all of the technical kinks in their stylus lineups so that they work properly with the new screen technology in the newer iPad Air 2 and probably why my Bluetooth Adonit stylus is working fine with my iPad Pro.

It maybe more of an OS issue, now.

What stylus are you using on your Air 2 and how long ago did you purchase this?

Apple is still selling the first generation iPad Air in either 16 or 32 GB configurations which DO NOT USE the latest screen technology of the iPad Air 2.

Apple is no longer selling the iPad Mini 3.

It is either the Mini 4 (which, I believe has the same screen technology as the iPad Air 2 ) or the iPad Mini 2.

Also, you may get more of a discount on any model iPad if you check Apple's refurbished store.

Refurbished Apple are products that have been repaired and reinspected by Apple and are treated just like new product with the same warranty coverages.

As I stated above, there was about a 8-10 month lag time for stylus makers to update their stylus lineups to work with the new screen technologies in the new iPads, like the Air 2 AND Mini 4.

This has sinced been resolved and the better known stylus makers have new models of stylii that should be 100% compatible with the new screen technologies in the IPad Air 2.

WItness as I have a 3 month old Adonit Jot Touch w/PixelPoint and it appears to work well with the new iPad Pro, as well.

Apple keeps the lower end models of their latest iDevice lineups as introductory, first time Apple buyer products as the entry pricing is cheaper.

That is they still sell the iPad Mini 2 and the original iPad Air.

Also, both the iPad Mini 2 and iPad Air no longer come in a 64 or 128 GBs storage models and only choice of two colors.

Apple discontinued the iPad Mini 3 because the iPad Mini 4 took its place as top of the iPad Mini lineup.
