Problems with Selecting Text in MS Word for Mac with Apple Magic Mouse

While onsite I usually take my MacBookPro and my Apple Magic Mouse. I'm not too happy with my trackpad, and the Magic Mouse works with almost all apps...except MS Word for Mac.

Invariably it seems to have problems selecting text. Click on a particular location, hold down the left corner and then try to move the mouse. More often than not it will do absolutely nothing. If you then click to another paragraph and come BACK to the original place, sometimes that works. This has been consistently bad since Yosemite and I'm now on the latest version of El Capitan.

Is there some fix, or is this an MS Word for Mac issue?
