El Capitan may have killed my Firewire port

This past week I upgraded my studio computer (2012 Mac Book Pro) to El Capitan but when I reconnected my audio interface (Focusrite Saffire 40 - http://us.focusrite.com/firewire-audio-interfaces/saffire-pro-40) the firewire port doesn't seem to pick up the audio interface. The audio interface is not being recognized by the OS. I didn't see the interface in the Audio/Midi area, I ran the audio interface's software and it is recognizing that the Saffire 40 is connected. I'm at my witt's end because I have a client coming in for a recording session within the coming week and I can't seem to solve the problem. Is there a problem with El Capitan that cause the firewire to not be recognized? Prior to upgrading the system was working perfectly. HELP!!!!!

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Thanks a lot. I also searched around and found that I may have to go in and delete the two preference files in Mac HD > Library > Preference > Audio along with the "com.apple.audiomidisetup.plist (if it exist). After doing this I will need to empty the trash and install the Saffire Mix Control 3.6.

Hopefully this will work; I'm currently at work and will try when I get home tonight (have to pay for my expensive hobby of having a recording studio for music production).

Once again, thanks for your reply.
