Q: Importing XAVC video into FCP 7

I want to import XAVC video from a Sony PXW-X70 into FCP 7. I understand that I need to convert it to Prores. Can anyone recommend an app to convert it?

Version 10.6.8

Thank you.

EditReady. But that won't run on 10.6.8...only 10.9 and up. And ClipWrap only works on AVCHD files.

Media Encoder? That means you'll need the Adobe suite.  Not much out there for this very current format for use on your pretty old OS.  And I know that it's not wise to update that OS to 10.9.5, because Motion and Compressor no longer work under that version.  So, you might need to run that on a separate computer.

    Thanks Shane.

I saw something called the Brorsoft video converter. Do you have an opinion about it?

Sorry, I don't. I've heard of it, but never used it.  if you can get it to work on your OS version, and it'll convert to a ProRes that FCP supports...go for it. Hope they have a free demo available.

I bought this video converter Mac version to convert Apple ProRes and other file types into h264 MPEG4 AAC 1920x1080 16:9 for uploading to Longtail Video's "Bits On The Run" offering. I love it, it is doing exactly what I need it to and better still it is very easy to use. I think it can help you also for XAVC files.
