iTunes says that my ipod Shuffle is is need of a "restore" because it is in recovery mode. When I try to do that, it says "Unknown Error ____(error number) the ipod could not be restored". How do I restore it?
Also, this may or may not be helpful, but my mac is also saying randomly "Please do not disconnect the ipod without ejecting first". Even when I am nowhere near it.

It sounds like you are unable to restore your iPod because of an error you get in iTunes. The fact that you are getting an error that your iPod isn't being ejected correctly.
