i can't send movie from iMovie to final cut pro

I can send an event from iMovie to Final Cut - no problems. But I can not send a movie from iMovie to Final Cut.

When I click on "send movie to Final Cut" - it starts with a drop screen "preparing" and then closes, and nothing has happened. I understand that Final Cut was suppose to open, and the movie project would have imported into Final Cut , but FCPX stays closed - and nothing happens.

rMBP 15" 8GB RAM

Someone please help me - I don't want to have to recreate everything in FCPX from scratch.
