I am thinking about buying an airport express base station to use as a print server. I have a usb only printer which I would like to use around the house wirelessly. Can I use the base station for this purpose without it being permanently linked to my wifi modem router?

Keep in mind that only the print function will work when you use the AirPort Express, so if you have an All-in-One type of device, the "scan", "copy", "maintenance" and other advanced functions will not be supported.

Thank you Bob, that was exactly what I expected. It is only a printer, a Canon IX6550, but I don't believe it will work on a print server, so I don't expect it will work on this device either..
