contact search problem

Whenever I search my contacts, I can't just type something in the Search Window.

First, I have to go the the "Groups" uncheck the "Contact" and then re-check it.

This started happening after a recent upgrade of my iPhone 6+ to OS 9.

Anyone have any ideas how to stop this and save me some frustration?

I have a similar situation:

- iphone 5 with IOS 9.1

- Contacts connected to:

- My hotmail account (which I maintain mostly with Microsoft Outlook)

Since this is my main contacts list it is checked for display

- My gmail account with only a few contacts

Since this list is unimportant for me, the dispay is unchecked

Normally with the default search only about 10% of my contacts are found.

When I uncheck and re-check the display of my hotmail account, there was no effect on the search results.

(Based on the clue from skwip) When I uncheck and re-check the display of all groups, the results were good.

Nevertheles, with this solution you never know when you can count on the search.

(PS this is my first iphone. Except for the longer battery life of iphone, my previous (old) Samsung Galaxy SII worked much better in alsmost all areas)
