Q: Above 16 GB?

What could happen if I add more than 16Gb to a Imac late 2011?

I bought 2 memories of 8 Gb, I took out the 2 memories of 2 Gb that came with mi Imac and I wonder will it go faster with 20 Gb?

Since the specification here on the web says that the limit is 16Gb, if I add more will it work or the Imac will ignore any memory above 16 Gb?

Second thing is that I don't see it working faster with the 16Gb I added. Should I restore to factory?

That is all Apple says it accommodates, it can handle 32GB though. I have 24GB in my 2011 27" iMac.
